Climate Controlled Fur Storage

After selling you a beautiful We are proud to offer storage and care services for your fur garment. This service keeps your fur in the best shape so you can enjoy it for many years to come. At Dimitri Furs & Leather we are a second generation family business who are full service furriers.

Storing Your Fur Professionally
Fur storage is a must during the late spring and summer months. We will store your fur in a professionally, climatically controlled fur storage vault to protect it against heat and insect damage. Your home air conditioner and cedar closet does not do the same as a fur coat storage vault that is kept between 40 – 50 degrees with humidity at 45 – 55%. These numbers are considered ideal for the protection of your fur garment. Our fur storage is available for all your furs, including furs not bought from us.

Fur Storage Arrangements
At Dimitri Furs & Leather you can bring your fur garments into our store for storage or set up a fur pickup appointment almost anywhere in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on LongIsland. Once the fur garment arrives on our premises, before storage our fur experts will inspect your furs for any repairs, cleaning or possible remodels your fur coats may require.

Importance Of Fur Coat Storage
Fur storage is an absolute must during the warm and muggy late spring and summer months in New York. Proper storage is one of the most important things you can do to preserve your favorite furs. We will store your fur in a professionally, climatically controlled fur storage vault to protect it against heat and insect damage. When you store your furs with us, you’ll also have peace of mind that your furs are protected from theft, sunlight exposure, crowded conditions, and vermin of all kinds. It’s also important to store your furs in a convenient and accessible location, like ours, so that you can use them if an important event comes up or if the temperatures drop unexpectedly.

Unfortunately, your home air conditioner and cedar closet do not offer the same level of protection as a fur cold storage vault. In-home closets are too hot, dry, and often filled with mothballs, and in-home air conditioning circulates too much humidity in the air to preserve fur garments. Meanwhile, cedar doesn’t allow suitable air circulation, and storing fur with other types of materials can result in unpleasant and lasting odors. Our highly specialized vaults are kept between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity levels of 45% to 55%. This temperature and humidity level is ideal for protecting your fur garment from damage while you have it stored away. With colder temperatures, furs go through the biodegradation process much slower because there is less molecular activity. Therefore, colder (but not freezing) temperatures protect furs from deterioration and drying out. Humidity control is also very important, especially if you expect your furs to hang in the same place for a significant amount of time. Low humidity causes the natural oils of furs to dry out and deteriorate over time. However, with high humidity and dampness, your precious furs could actually begin to decay at an accelerated rate.
